This effect started out with some great style frames created by Black Logic.

The ice layer breaking apart at the beginning of the effect has an original style frame texture mapped onto its 3D surfaces.

Houdini particals were used to animate the broken chunks of ice, and transparent/refractive/reflective meta-balls were used for the drop "crown" effect.

Special thanks to Bob Tabor of Bates for sticking with us during those all-nighters to get the liquid crown effect looking just right.
